Life Contains These Things

First up on New Mex bucket list

pyramidrockOne of the things I look forward to in New Mexico are their famous hike/bike/climb trails.  I’ve been to several great trails in the New Mexico and Arizona regions, but Pyramid Rock in Gallup was my most memorable attempt.

I remember when I first climbed Pyramid Rock to practice for the fun run event scheduled there circa 2003.  It’s very scenic, but also challenging for beginners like me.

Its elevation starts from 6,600 to 7,487 ft.  It is, by far, the highest point in the Red Rock vicinity.  It’s a 3-mile roundtrip, and only a few minutes away from our place.

Sadly, I didn’t reach the summit during my first attempt.  I was way too tired and hungry, and only had a few candied berries in my pocket.  It was around brunch time, and yes, I had a rather heavy breakfast at that.  The natural life is great, and we encountered several fascinating critters along the way (beetles, caterpillars and such).  The rock formations are unworldly, which is typical in the region anyway.
